With particular planning constraints in place, the original proposal of refurbishing a 1970s property was replaced with a new build design to maximise the potential of the historical walled garden plot, set in the former gardens of a Victorian property.
The client was particularly keen to build a modern home incorporating exquisite design detail and a respectful nod to the traditional material palette surrounding the site. Terracotta tiles, flint, and bespoke privacy screening accompany Soft Red Multi handmade bricks, laid in a flemish bond and finished with traditional lime mortar, all carefully selected to complement each other.
The Antha-zinc roofing was chosen for its matt finish and colour matched to traditional slate. The design incorporates double skin brickwork to create deep, recessed windows, cleverly integrate rainwater goods and achieve excellent thermal performance as close to Passivhaus standard as possible.
