The new build elements consist of two separate properties, which needed to be sensitively aligned with the historic fabric of the adjacent Grade II listed buildings, requiring a very sympathetic approach. The new buildings were constructed with imperial-sized Soft Red handmade bricks, laid in a traditional flemish bond. These bricks offered the most pertinent choice for the project’s location within a historic conservation area.
Georgian-style brick arches, stone quoins and a feature pediment on top of the central bay complete the design.
The project received a Commended award at the 2018 Graham Allen Awards for the high quality and sensitivity of the design and finishes.
