19th century farm buildings have been restored to form an inspiring space for education, culture, music and the arts. Phase 2 of the project involved a £1.5m refurbishment and extension scheme, designed by MCW Architects. The Granary and barn are now connected with a glazed linking structure, home to new offices, a creative space for art, a foyer, and long gallery.
With reclaimed materials used wherever possible, traditional black stained timber cladding and new Cambridge Buff handmade bricks laid in a monk bond match the fabric of the existing structures. The sensitive redevelopment of this site successfully retains the character of the Victorian agricultural buildings, whilst bringing the ACE Foundation’s vision to life.
The project has won RIBA East Award for 2019.
